So it’s been a few months, and I’ve made a little progress on things. First, the ones that are hard to show in pictures:
1. The mini-overlander camper is towable and has functional lights and brakes. Wiring is boring and hard to show, so just take my word for it. Still working on sealing and sourcing interior finishing materials, as well as re-working the coupler and some support stands so I don’t tip over crawling around in it while it’s not attached to a vehicle.
A long overdue update to the mini-camper workings…
I’ve made some progress on retrofitting a more modern suspension onto the rather basic chassis. I started with a cutting torch to remove the existing… axle, then some generic steel rectangular tubing to reinforce the ancient existing frame and give a platform to mount an axle-less setup from Timbren (pricy, but well built):
Then some stuff that I only documented on snapchat during the process, to fit up and attach the new suspension, with electric brakes and hubs that fit the same wheel bolt pattern as my tow Jeeps:
I see it’s been a very long time since I’ve updated anything here. I’ve started a new project, a little more hands-on than some of my previous, more online-tech related ones.
I made what much of my family considers to be a somewhat unwise purchase, a 1958 utility trailer:
I’m planning on making it into a custom mini-overland style camper for some solo travel shenanigans in the not so distant future.
